What is Water Soften Resin?
Ion-exchange resins are utilized to replace calcium and magnesium ions in hard water with sodium ions. Fresh resin is loaded with sodium ions at its active sites. When hard water flows through the resin attracts calcium and magnesium ions, releasing sodium ions into the water. This significantly reduces the hardness of the water.
The resin is regenerated by washing it with a sodium-rich solution, like saltwater. This displaces the calcium and magnesium ions, replacing them with sodium ions, and allows the resin to be reused for water softening.
